About the Academy

The American Academy of the History of Dentistry, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1951, has as its goals the following:

  • Creating an authoritative body to which important questions relating to dental history could be referred for factual verification.
  • Stimulating more thorough and comprehensive research in dental history, thereby extending the boundaries of dental knowledge, giving substantial support to growing professional culture.

The Academy’s official peer-reviewed publication offers readers insightful and interesting articles on the history of dentistry. An annual subscription is included with membership.

Our premium website, Apollonia, is named after the  patron saint of dentists and dentistry.

Apollonia provides enhanced  searching and navigational of our Journal from Volume 1  through the current issue. Additionally, we have developed two unique digital resources; Biographical  and Bibliographical databases, devised for continuous growth and increased content.

Apollonia allows for the expansion and integration of other resources enabling support for individuals researching the history of our profession.
